Moody Mountains the Film

The Inspiration and the Journey

Moody Mountains of Alaska is a conceptual focus inspired by Ralph Kristophers multi disciplinary approach to art and life. Here is what the artist has to say:

"I have had the opportunity to put thirty plus years of exploring photography behind me. I am from a family of musicians, artists and teachers so I learned at a young age to listen, feel, observe and to explore. One of the truths I found for expression is that moments can be seen through many lenses which is fine but we as humans at least need to stand in the same place with these lenses to learn, understand and decode the message. I feel that It is the artists job to bring people into a common moment and allow their experience to be the harmony of the art, I just gather, assemble and give from my center, it is my job to bring all my this together for everyone.

Often I would take these images with people in the vicinity focused on very different dimensions of fun and play and I would just be standing totally zoned into this realm of light, contrast, air currents, sounds and planetary flow. I was having this profound experience observing natures compositions and expressions and it remains a vibration of love from the planet and indeed the cosmos in my life.

I spent time, very memorable time with my grandfather as a child in his darkroom. Mastering the art of print making has always been the completion of any photograph as I can keenly remember all the steps and thoughtful care he put into print making.

The 19th century darkroom techniques became the bedrock of modern digital photography and print making. I use the same techniques and thankfully without the heavy metal vaporous chemicals that likely contributed to my grandfathers death from cancers!

I have embraced digital tools but also not forgotten my roots. In film we had a negative, in digital photography we have a neutral and really even the most elaborate digital tools were the dreams of every darkroom tech for a hundred plus years; although, not taking it too far itself is an art, and arguably taking it way too far is also an art.

I personally think that our camera tools are so powerful that many people; it’s like, photographers especially tend to effectively, comparatively walk up to a piano and just smash all the keys or just play simple pre set cords and scales, and then change it up and do something totally different still smashing keys and playing cords. I wanted to in this print series walk up to my instruments, and tools and create a journey, a symphony that flowed together. It took me years to create these, I journeyed into the most remote mountains in Alaska and spent time in these spaces with intention honor to the rarity of access to these places and spaces. I feel a deep vibe, a deep magical ‘hummm’ from the earth, sun and the mountains in these spaces, This sensation is in each of these images. I invite the viewer and the new owners of these fine art images to open a portal in their own space through time into this moment here on our planetary body we know as Earth.  Bring your many lenses, emotions and feelings to the door and leave them behind for a minute or use them but please float in these magical landscapes of sun, earth and glacier. These magically powerful spaces and places, a moment in time here on our planetary body.

I’m so thrilled to bring these images back for all of us! Thank you to all who also feel them and can take something from these images and use it for their own self.  I invite you to transform the energy in your space with these tranquil yet also these Moody Mountains of Alaska! ”

  • Focus

This special panoramic image of the Colony glacier was captured outside of Gidwood Alaska in the Chugach mountain range. And is one of my favorites in this series.

Find it for your space here
  • About the print meduims

On display is a magnificently and carefully crafted physical masterpeice in its own right. It took me years of shopping to find a print shop and a craftsman to put this display option together for you all. Heavy but also very sturdy, durable and elegent. Each comes ready to hang with its own special mounting system

  • Loose Canvas Prints

Despite the meduim or size only ten prints of any image will ever be apart of this series. These loose canvas prints are displayed with a hand made light weight and simple 'frame'. Each image has three inches of extra canvas enough for the new owners to imagine their own way of displaying in their space.
